SARAWAK TO DEVELOP KUCHING AI DATA CAMPUS - ABANG JOHARI
KUCHING, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Sarawak will develop Kuching AI Data Campus in Tanjung Embang, Samarahan as a catalyst for the next phase of the state’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the campus would be supported by dedicated power and water infrastructure, AI computing facilities and digital connectivity nodes, and developed through a public-private partnership approach.
“The campus is intended to provide the physical foundation for the development of an AI Grid, while creating a platform to attract investment, strengthen our data centre ecosystem, and support the growth of AI-related businesses and capabilities in Sarawak,” Abang Johari said.
He said this when officiating the ninth International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS26), themed ‘Scaling Innovation Ecosystems For A Borderless Economy: Earth, Orbit & Beyond’, here, today.
Abang Johari also said that alongside the data campus’s development, the AI Grid is also being developed to connect computing resources and make use of Sarawak’s renewable energy capacity, two initiatives that represent a progression from strategy to infrastructure, and ultimately to application.
“ADAM AI, developed for the Sarawak Civil Service was one practical example of this approach, demonstrating how AI could be applied within government to work with authorised information, support policy analysis, and improve the way documents were prepared, scenarios assessed and decisions made.
“The potential extends beyond government, as the same capabilities can also be adapted across industries where Sarawak has distinctive needs and strengths,” he added.
