RM216 MLN PROPOSED FOR BINTULU-BAKUN ROAD OVERTAKING LANES - KKR
KUCHING, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Works Ministry (KKR) has proposed building overtaking lanes at six locations along the Bintulu-Bakun Road in Sarawak at an estimated cost of RM216 million.
In a statement today, KKR said the proposed locations are around KM16, KM39, KM49, KM75, KM106 and KM109, with the lanes covering a combined distance of about 12 kilometres.
“The proposal has been submitted for consideration under Rolling Plan 2 of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RP2, RMK-13),” it said.
The proposed scope includes Side-by-Side Passing Lanes (SSPL), upgrading related structures and installing street lighting along the affected sections, according to the ministry.
KKR said the overtaking lanes were needed because parts of the route are hilly and winding, with limited visibility at certain locations and slow-moving heavy vehicles.
The project would provide safer opportunities for motorists to overtake while improving traffic flow and journey comfort, it said.
The ministry said the route serves more than 30 longhouses and villages and provides a key link from Bintulu and Sebauh to Sungai Asap, Belaga, as well as the Bakun and Murum hydroelectric dams.
