UPGRADING OF 17.1KM REDLINE PAN BORNEO SARAWAK SCHEDULED FOR COMPLETION BY EARLY 2028
KUCHING, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The upgrading project for the Redline sections of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway (Short Stretch) is expected to be completed by early 2028.
The Ministry of Works (KKR), in a statement today, said that the 17.1-kilometre project involves upgrading pavement structures at nine locations, including Lachau, Selangau, Balingian, Kemena, Sebiew and Tudan.
The project is a government initiative to upgrade existing routes that were not included in the initial implementation of the Pan Borneo Highway.
Before the project began, about 87 per cent of the existing alignment consisted of single-carriageway, two-lane roads.
KKR said the procurement process had been completed, with the ministry, through the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), issuing a Letter of Acceptance to DAL-HCM Sdn Bhd on Aug 18, 2026.
The ministry said it hoped the upgrading works would proceed smoothly, remain on schedule and meet the required quality standards.
“KKR, together with Sarawak JKR, will continuously and strictly monitor the project to ensure the contractor complies with safety standards and the established timeline,” it said.
