HAZE LEAVES SIX SARAWAK AREAS WITH UNHEALTHY AIR QUALITY
KUCHING, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Cross-border haze pushed air quality to unhealthy levels in six areas of Sarawak as of 4 pm, compared with five areas earlier in the day.
Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Kuching (153), Samarahan (155), Serian (171), Sri Aman (124), Mukah (115) and Bintulu (153).
Earlier, Sarawak’s Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said cross-border haze could affect 19 areas in the state over the next few days, with winds currently carrying smoke from hotspots in neighbouring regions into Sarawak.
The State Disaster Management Committee chairman said the areas identified were Betong, Bintulu, Daro, Julau, Kanowit, Kuching, Lundu, Marudi, Miri, Mukah, Pakan, Samarahan, Saratok, Serian, Sibu, Simunjan, Song, Sri Aman and Tatau.
