SARAWAK ZONE MSN CARNIVAL PROMOTES SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION CULTURE
KUCHING, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) today officially launched the National Science Week (MSN) Carnival 2026 for the Sarawak Zone.
The ministry said in a statement that this year’s edition marked a milestone by carrying the mission of breaking geographical barriers and ensuring that the spirit of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) was also ignited in interior and rural areas to nurture a technology-literate generation.
Its secretary-general Datuk Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, in his speech at the event, said the MSN 2026 was a key government initiative to foster a culture of science, technology and innovation.
"The Sarawak Zone MSN Carnival 2026 will also engage school students through outreach activities under the STEM Catalysts Programme to reach students in rural schools in Sarawak, particularly in Meradong, Bintulu and Belaga districts," he said.
The two-day event was launched by Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn at the Sarawak Science Centre here.
According to MOSTI, the physical science carnival also introduced nuclear technology advocacy, which represented a paradigm shift in building public confidence and social acceptance towards the safe application of nuclear technology.
In addition, it introduced the citizen science platform, which can be accessed through the sainsrakyat.my portal.
"This platform invites all segments of society, including rural communities, to contribute real-world data to drive research and science-based solutions," the statement said.
