TOP FACILITIES FOR TOP PERFORMANCE BY ATHLETES AT PARA SUKMA

KUCHING, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The top-notch facilities provided by the Sarawak government is aimed at helping para athletes to give their best at the 2024 Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA) which will officially begin tomorrow until Sept 28. 

Powerlifting athlete Francis Xavier Kinjing, 40, who is competing for the third time at the biennial event is pleased that his arrival with the Sabah team has been warmly welcomed by the host, making him feel at home.

“I was welcomed with traditional customs and attire at the airport today, it was truly festive and pleasing to the eye. Thank you to the Sarawak government for the buses, facilities, and the organisation of Para SUKMA this time," he told Bernama here today.

Meanwhile, Faris Iqbal Ahmad, 22, said that the well-organised facilities made it easier for him to retain his championship title in the chess when he is competing alongside his new partner, Muhammad Amirul Hakimi, in this edition.  

"The facilities are in order as the needs of persons with disabilities (PWD) are well taken care of. The  hotel even provide easy access for us on wheelchair,” he said

According to a Bernama survey today, para-athletes were received with a traditional welcome dance upon their arrival at Kuching Airport before being transported to their respective accommodations by Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd which has facilities ‘friendly’ for PWD to Kuching.

The Games Village involves 19 hotels organised according to the events they will be participating. 

The 10 sports to be contested at  Para SUKMA are athletics, swimming, badminton, table tennis, bowling, boccia, lawns bowls, powerlifting, archery and chess involving 328 events.

 This edition of the Games, from Sept 22 to 28, would involve 1,290 para athletes, comprising 982 males and 308 females.
