SARAWAK BUDGET: ASSISTANCE FOR IPTA, IPTS STUDENTS - ABANG JOHARI
KUCHING, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- Special assistance for Sarawak students at public and private institutions of higher learning will be announced in the Sarawak Budget 2024.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the budget will be tabled at the State Legislative Assembly sitting which will commence from Nov 20 to 29.
He said that according to state government data, it is estimated that about 5,000 Sarawak students in public institutions of high learning (IPTA) and private institutions of higher learning (IPTS) required assistance annually, including those from the low-income group B40.
“We know that there are many things that these students should have (buy) and the price of these items is also quite high.
“Apart from that, their textbooks are also quite expensive. We will provide textbook assistance for our students at IPTA and IPTS and there will be some additional assistance that I will announce later (in the budget),” he said.
He said this after attending the opening ceremony of the 2023 Bank Negara Malaysia LATerasi Kewangan exhibition here, today.
