BINTULU, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi urged members of the public and road users to report overloaded lorries along Jalan Simpang Bakun-Empangan Bakun (FT803) on the MYJalan app.

“If possible record the offences by taking pictures and report it via the MYJalan app so we can take immediate action,” he said in his Facebook post today.

Nanta inspected the condition of the road today, which was reportedly damaged by overloaded lorries frequenting the route.

He said the lorries were also reported to be blatantly breaking the law with some drivers cutting the gantries installed to block them from using the road.

He said the Works Ministry has approved a total of RM7.5 million to repair and resurface the badly damaged road caused by a weak pavement structure.

The allocation was to urgently repair the critically damaged parts of the road and the installation of gantries and signage on permissible weight limits, he added.

He said the Works Ministry is also planning to widen a stretch of the road for overtaking at suitable points in 2024, depending on next year’s Budget.

Nanta said RM30 million is needed to upgrade the road and he assured that the Ministry will do its best to obtain the allocation for the well-being and safety of road users.

The MyJalan mobile app, which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Aug 30, is an initiative by the Works Ministry to provide road users an additional avenue to make complaints related to road damage.

It aims to seek long-term solutions for road damage and reduce such issues caused by overloaded vehicles as well.
