KUCHING, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) will be flagged off in Kuching today and will complete its 1,100-kilometre patriotic tour on Aug 15.

Sarawak Information Department (JAPEN) director Jaafar Jantan said the 10-vehicle convoy will travel through the main districts in Sarawak and cross the border into Brunei and on to Sipitang, Sabah before returning to Kuching.

He said the convoy’s checkpoints will cover public spaces such as farmers’ markets, district police headquarters as well as fire and rescue stations.

“Various programmes have been organised for the communities at each checkpoint, which will be attended by local leaders as well.

“The convoy will also stop at the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei for a National Month programme there,” he told Bernama.

The KMJG will start at JAPEN’s head office in Kuching and set off on its first leg of the tour to Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Saratok and Sibu.

The convoy will pass through Sibu, Tatau and Bintulu tomorrow; Bintulu, Miri and Limbang (Aug 10); Lawas (Aug 11); Lawas-Sipitang (Aug 12); Sipitang-Lawas (Aug 13); Lawas, Brunei, Bintulu (Aug 14); and back to Kuching on Aug 15.

The state-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign was launched by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Aug 3.

Jaafar said one of the main messages highlighted during this campaign is the high level of patriotism shown by uniformed personnel.

He said the good values of abiding by the law and love for the nation, which are synonymous with uniformed personnel such as the police, armed forces, and fire and rescue departments, should be emulated by all.
