3,641 SARAWAK COMPANIES FORCED TO WIND UP DURING PANDEMIC

KUCHING, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- A total of 3,641 companies in Sarawak were forced to wind up throughout the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to date.

State Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said this was based on the data of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

He said in order to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government has provided various assistance like the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (PEMULIH).

“Whereas, the Sarawak Government has also implemented Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang Packages totalling RM6.7 billion which includes financial and non-financial assistance for the rakyat including Small and Medium Enterprises (SME).

“From 2020 to date, more than 10,500 Sarawak entrepreneurs had received assistance from the state government with a total aid of RM187 million via various programmes,” he said in reply to a question by Safiee Ahmad (GPS-Daro) during question and answer session at the Sarawak State Assembly sitting here, today.

Safiee wanted to know how many companies in Sarawak had gone out of business since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country and government’s efforts to help them recover their businesses.
