Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this tour programme could also be a platform to create holistic ecosystem synergy between the federal and state governments.

“I also wish to assure that programmes like the Malaysia Halal Tour will be intensified in this state as we want to steer our halal industry to greater heights, in tandem with that of other states’,” he said in his speech at the officiating of the event, here, today.

The text of his speech was read out by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

Organised by Halal Development Corporation Bhd (HDC) in collaboration with Sarawak’s Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), the programme is aimed at benefiting the local entrepreneurs who are looking for business opportunities in the halal market.

Meanwhile, HDC chief executive officer, Hairol Ariffein Sahari said that so far, 450 entrepreneurs had registered under the programme, exceeding the set target of 250.

He said more programmes would be organised to enable the industry’s participants to obtain halal certification and raise their capability to become exporters.

“Hence, the importance of close cooperation between the HDC, MINTRED and Sarawak Islamic Council, and we expect more of the state’s entrepreneurs to participate in this programme.

“Currently, the main destination for Malaysia’s halal products for export is China followed by Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and South Korea,” he added.
