Terengganu wants Sarawak to assist in digitalisation policy
KUCHING, June 23 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), the multimedia regulatory body of the Sarawak Government, has attracted the interest of the Terengganu government to facilitate the peninsular east coast state’s digitalisation policy.
Terengganu’s Exco for Tourism, Culture and Digital Economy, Ariffin Deraman said as Sarawak is more experienced in its digitalisation policy, they were keen to learn more from SMA in implementing the policy following the formation of Terengganu Joint Digital Intelligent Development Sdn Bhd (TAJDID).
“As it would be taking too much time to enact the (Terengganu State) law, the (Terengganu) state government has set up TAJDID. We are coming here because we want to learn from SMA as it has the budget to implement the policy (as per the SMA Ordinance)," he said in a statement.
The statement came after a briefing held by SMA for Terengganu state government delegates at SMA Cultural Heritage Innovation Centre (CHIC) here today.
Ariffin said TAJDID has also set up two subsidiaries, namely Terengganu Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (TCOMM) to construct telecommunication structures in the state and Terengganu Digital 1303 as a digital village to empower its people to embrace the digital economy.
On a related issue, Ariffin said Terengganu is keen to collaborate with Sarawak’s Ministry of Tourism to develop apps to promote tourism products especially in ecotourism.
“We would like to return to share knowledge with our counterparts in Sarawak,” he added.
