ANOTHER VICTIM OF SUNGAI BARAM BOAT TRAGEDY FOUND DROWNED, ONE MORE STILL MISSING
MIRI, July 23 (Bernama) -- Another victim of the boat capsizing tragedy in Sungai Baram, near Long Selatong, Marudi was found drowned today, bringing the death toll to three, while another victim is still missing.
In a statement, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said that the body of Jonathan Nyurang Lusut, 45, was found by the public at around 9.50 am in the Jiram Masen area, near Long Seperek.
"The victim's body was examined by medical officers at the Klinik Kesihatan Long San before being handed over to the family for burial arrangements," it said.
According to the statement, the search and rescue operation (SAR), which has entered its third day, will continue to locate the last victim, Ceria Anak Dullah, 43.
The SAR was conducted within a radius of approximately five kilometres (km) from the incident location, but the victim has not yet been found, leading to the operation being suspended at 5 pm and will resume tomorrow.
Previously, the first victim, Jovian Jangin Joshua, 4, was found drowned about 100 metres from the location of the capsized boat on July 21, while his father, Joshua Uken Mathew, 38, was found by villagers in Long Na'ah, about 34 km from the incident location at 9 am yesterday.
In the incident on Monday, Jovian, along with his parents, Ceria and Joshua, as well as Jonathan, were believed to have boarded a boat heading to the Klinik Kesihatan Long San before being reported missing.
The next day, the boat was found capsized in Sungai Baram.
