SEMICONDUCTOR MASTERY PROGRAMME WILL HELP STRENGTHEN TALENT POOL IN SARAWAK - CENTEXS
KUCHING, July 27 (Bernama) -- The Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak has taken over the implementation of the Semiconductor Mastery Programme from SMD Semiconductor today.
Its chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman said the partnership was an achievement to be proud of and expressed his commitment to continue equipping youth in the state with relevant skills required by various industries.
“The move strengthens the synergy between CENTEXS and SMD in a joint mission to empower talent, support the electric and electronics industry and to drive innovation in the region, he said at the programme’s strategic partnership exchange in conjunction with the 2025 SMD IC Design Make-A-Thon at Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), Sibu today.
Meanwhile SMD CEO Shariman Jamil described the handover not as a mere shift of duties but a strategic move to strengthen the state’s talent ecosystem, adding that the six-month programme was initially developed as an initiatve to nurture local talen in analogue IC design.
“With CENTEXS heading the implementation and SMD as the exclusive training provider, we will ensure this programme retains its technical quality and is expanded to more participants,” he added.
The programme will be expanded to Digital IC Design and IC Test Solutions, fields identified as priorities in the state’s semiconductor aspirations.
