PERNAS ALLOCATES RM4 MLN FOR SARAWAK'S FRANCHISE INDUSTRY
KUCHING, May 11 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (Pernas), an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (Kuskop), has earmarked RM4 million to bolster Sarawak's franchise industry.
In a statement, the ministry disclosed that the allocation was made under the BizFrancais programme in partnership with the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MySED).
"Sarawak serves as the inaugural destination for this year's programme tour series.
"Pernas has disbursed over RM10 million to Sarawak entrepreneurs, facilitating the development of more than 15 local franchise and pre-franchise brands since 2004," it said.
The statement was issued alongside today's opening ceremony of the Sarawak BizFrancais Programme 2024, officiated by Sarawak's Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.
Also in attendance were Kuskop's Franchise and Vendor Development Division secretary, Chek Zainuddin Chek Jusoh, MySED permanent secretary Dolhadi Marzuki and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Entrepreneur and Community Development Division director Nikk Adam Abdillah Kipalli.
Ripin emphasised in his address that the programme is part of Sarawak's ongoing effort to empower franchise entrepreneurship, aligning with the ministry's goal of nurturing youth entrepreneurs by 2030.
Meanwhile, Pernas Franchise Development Division general manager Mazlan Ibrahim said the BizFrancais Programme tour series' aim to stimulate economic growth, income generation and create diverse job opportunities, particularly in franchising.
Pernas targets RM50 million for this year's BizFrancais programme tour, spanning Penang, Pahang, and Sabah. Last year, it disbursed RM25.23 million to entrepreneurs.
Since its inception in 2019, this programme has hosted 20 series.
