BERNAS BRINGS RAMADAN CHEER TO 150 ASNAF IN SARAWAK
KUCHING, March 23 (Bernama) -- Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) today brought cheer to 150 asnaf (tithe recipients) consisting of orphans and the underprivileged as part of the Gema Ramadan BERNAS programme.
BERNAS chairman Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the beneficiaries from 13 villages around the city received essential items such as rice, soy sauce, and cooking oil.
"This is our contribution during the holy month of Ramadan. We also distributed bubur lambuk (savoury rice porridge) to them to break the fast together,” she told reporters when met after the programme here today.
According to Rohani, a total of 1,500 packets of Bubur Lambuk were distributed to the visitors of Sukma Ramadan Bazaar and Darul Hana Mosque under this initiative.
She said that a similar programme will also be held in Yan, Kedah, on April 28, in which 500 people from the region, including farmers and asnaf, are expected to participate.
"In Kedah, all the beneficiaries, especially the asnaf, will be taken to shop for Hari Raya Aidilfitri clothes, besides breaking the fast together with them and the farmers," she said
