KUCHING, March 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 12,000 food donation boxes will be distributed to 11 enforcement agencies in Sarawak during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration as part of the Sumbangsih Raya 2024 (SR24) Programme.

Sarawak's Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the contribution symbolises the state government's concern and appreciation for the sacrifices made by security and enforcement personnel on duty.

"This year's Sumbangsih Raya includes five types of food and drink items, namely serunding daging, fruit cakes, kacang botak as well as 3-in-1 coffee and tea, for those working during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

"In addition, we have also prepared Hari Raya greeting cards as a token of remembrance from the Sarawak government to all members who are on duty during the festive season," she said in her speech at the handover of the Sumbangsih Raya 2024 items at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Fatimah highlighted that this year marks the 34th edition of the programme which was first introduced in 1990 by the Women's Bureau, now known as the Sarawak Women and Family Department.

"Formerly known as Sejambak Kasih, this programme had been organised by the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) for over two decades under the title Festive Season Donation.

“This programme is a significant effort by JKMS, held during major celebrations like Chinese New Year, Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, Deepavali and Christmas to bring happiness and joy to the target groups, JKMS clients during these festive times,” she added.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in his speech at the event proposed to include instant noodle packs in next year's donations to further diversify food options.
