KUCHING, March 11 (Bernama) -- Media practitioners from the Peninsula will soon have the chance to experience for themselves and understand the society in Sarawak during the upcoming Media Conference and National Journalists' Day 2024 (Hawana 2024) from May 25 to 27.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS)), Datuk Abdullah Saidol said that the organisation of the programme will also provide an opportunity for media practitioners from the Peninsula to learn about the latest developments in the state.

"Through this, they will better understand the social and political atmosphere, as well as the development plans under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

"A total of 300 journalists from the Peninsula as well as those in this state, are expected to attend both programmes," he said in a statement issued by UKAS after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari here today.

Abdullah said among the highlights of Hawana 2024 is an exhibition showcasing the journey, experiences, and sacrifices of media practitioners from the past to the present, to be showcased to the public.

"We want this exhibition to provide a true picture of the history of journalists' journeys until now.

"Meanwhile, during the media conference, we will present topics on challenges in the digital era and how information between the community and the government can be bridged," he said.

The Hawana 2024 Opening Ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Abang Johari on May 27, while the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, is expected to attend the Hawana dinner event at a leading hotel here on May 26.
