KUCHING, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- Sarawak will build two transit centres for the homeless in the city, said its Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

“Under the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), we have identified a location for the centre behind the Borneo Cultures Museum (on Jalan P Ramlee)...it is still at the tender stage.

"For the Kuching South City Council, the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) in Padungan has agreed to turn their third floor as a transit centre," she told a press conference after paying a courtesy call to DBKU Mayor Hilmy Othman.

The first homeless transit centre in Sarawak was built in Sibu in 2021 and the state government is currently building another one at Sebiew River Bridge, Bintulu.

"We focus on the main cities in the state and for the construction of the centre in Bintulu, we expect it to be completed in 2024 or early 2025 at the latest," she added.
