CIVIL SERVANTS’ ROLE CRUCIAL IN PROMOTING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PADU DATABASE

KUCHING, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- Civil servants, both at federal and state levels, should play a role in disseminating information and explaining the importance of registering with the Central Database Hub (PADU) system to the general public.

A civil servant in Sarawak, Alaster Alim, 29, said the system’s insights would help the federal and state governments to consolidate efforts in formulating policies or programmes aimed at strengthening the people’s socioeconomic status.

“The centralised data from PADU allows relevant agencies to keep up with the latest developments, particularly concerning the economy of the less privileged population who require assistance.

“For state agencies or departments, we need up-to-date data and previously, community leaders would provide the latest information on household heads in each village so we could determine whether a family was still in need or already had sufficient income,” he told Bernama.

Alaster also said that the Department of Statistics Malaysia’s (DOSM) plan to set up counters at district offices for PADU registration was the right move to assist the people residing in rural areas in Sarawak.

Another civil servant, Jenny Sijau, 54, said that the PADU system runs smoothly, is user-friendly and the personal data required are relevant for the government to enhance subsidy provisions.

“PADU was meticulously developed by civil servants and not by external parties. So, there is no reason for the public to worry about data leaks,” she said.

As of 4 pm yesterday, 516,168 users have registered with PADU, with 40,519 users hailing from Sarawak.

Registration is open from Jan 2 to March 31, and users can update and verify 30 personal details, including MyKad number, number of households and residential address.

The system was developed using the internal expertise of the Economy Ministry, DOSM and Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), with the cooperation and support of various ministries, agencies and state governments.
