KUCHING, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak will take precautionary measures only if cases of COVID-19 infection in the country reach an alarming level.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said that if the situation worsens, he is confident that the Ministry of Health (MOH) will issue guidelines.

“If the situation reaches that stage, the (state) ministry will control the matter, regarding the arrival of tourists to the country or state, in addition to events involving the public.

“Currently, every event we organise must follow the guidelines set, what we need to do or otherwise," he said after officiating the Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) Integrity Day here today.

Abdul Karim said that, so far, the situation of COVID-19 is still under control, and in the recent spike, most of the cases of infection with COVID-19 only have mild symptoms.

“Currently, anyone who has COVID-19 does not exhibit severe symptoms, just a mild flu, except for the elderly who are at risk and so they need to be vigilant,” he said.

On Sunday, Health director-general, Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, said that 3,626 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the 47th Epidemiological Week, from Nov 19 to 25, an increase of 57.3 per cent compared with the 2,305 cases recorded in the previous week.

He said that 48 per cent of the cases involved those aged 20 to 40, with more than 98 per cent of them only having mild symptoms.
