KUCHING, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Unlicensed food premises operators in the city are given until March next year to obtain their licence from the North Kuching City Hall (DBKU).

Mayor Hilmy Othman said DBKU has currently identified 166 unlicensed operators.

“We are giving them ample time. By March 24 we will impose strict action against those who are unlicensed,” he said after officiating at the World Toilet Day 2023 seminar hosted by DBKU at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, here, today.

Hilmy said food premises operators must obtain a licence from DBKU to facilitate the local authorities and the Ministry of Health in carrying out public health enforcement at their business premises, including those relating to public toilets hygiene, food preparations and smoking ban.

According to him, 386 food premises operators have obtained their licence, adding that DBKU constantly ensures public toilets in the relevant premises are maintained and in the best condition.

He said in the DBKU area of jurisdiction, there are 13 beautifully maintained public toilets in addition to 26 toilets at petrol stations, places of worship (62), shopping centres (16), tourist attractions (3), government offices (33), educational institutions and schools (66) as well as in hotels.

“The level of cleanliness at all these public toilets is satisfactory,” he said while calling on the public to cooperate in ensuring the cleanliness of the toilets.

As of November, DBKU awarded a five-star rating to 25 toilets, a four-star rating to 70 toilets and a three-star rating to 130 toilets.
