KUCHING, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Indigenous Culture and Arts Foundation (YKOA) will be expanding its medical outreach campaign in Sarawak’s remote Bario village, located at the northern part of the state, with focus on orthopedic care on Dec 9.

YKOA in a statement today said the previous pediatric screening campaign held on Oct 28 has been successful for the Bario residents, with 28 families screened.

“We foresee the project as an impactful one for marginalised communities as it connects and provides an outreach for these communities to their district hospital,” said YKOA chairman Dr. Andre Ratos in the statement.

It said both campaigns under the foundation’s Health Beyond Boundaries Medical Outreach Programme aimed to make an impact on indigenous health throughout Malaysia, targeting remote villages that face challenges in accessing healthcare.

According to the statement, the screening programmes will culminate in the development of intervention plans in consultation with doctors at the government facilities and local leaders, while ensuring a holistic approach to healthcare support.

“On the upcoming orthopedic campaign, the screening is said to be in demand due to the advanced age of the population and many having joint disorders,” it said.
