KUCHING, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) is channelling Early Schooling Aid (BAP) amounting to RM100,000 to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) B40 students and those who are less fortunate to continue their studies.

YBR, in a statement today, said the initiative involved a total of 100 students from semesters one to three of the Diploma and Bachelor's degrees identified by the Unimas Student Affairs Department, with an allocation of RM1,000 per student.

"It is hoped that this incentive will help the students to continue studying and motivate them to excel,” said YBR Board of Trustees member Rosaline Neging in the statement.

The statement added that YBR, through the Serambi Ilmu Rakyat Digital Library, otherwise known as the 'SIR Corner', in collaboration with Unimas has, donated a set of 'SIR Corner' equipment to the Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub Library (PeTARY).

The effort is to help all university students obtain the latest information and scientific reading material digitally, thus making Unimas the first university in Sarawak to have such a reading corner.

"Initiatives to elevate the quality of education should be emphasised through a learning environment in universities with sufficient resources and easy access to information," she said.
