KUCHING, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Hornbill Networks Consortium Sdn Bhd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vestech Energy Sdn Bhd and Alliance Bank Bhd to introduce solar-ready homes in Sarawak.

Vestech Energy is a subsidiary of solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions provider, Solarvest Holdings Bhd.

Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said that Sarawak Energy, which is a state-owned electric utility company, reported in 2021 that there were 617,255 domestic customer accounts that have a potential renewable energy (RE) generation of two gigawatts.

“The report also stated that Sarawak generated 73 per cent of its energy mix from RE.

“Nevertheless, 99 per cent of it is generated by hydropower. Thus, there is a need to have and encourage more solar energy power generation in Sarawak,” he said at the MoU signing ceremony here today.

Julaihi also noted that he was pleased to hear that Hornbill Networks Consortium is gearing up with Vestech Energy and Alliance Bank to launch an additional 500 solar-ready homes by 2025, on top of the 28 units for the first stage of the development.

“As such, these more than 500 solar-ready homes will generate close to 1.8 megawatts of RE, which is impressive. Kudos to these three organisations,” he said.
