MORE THAN 10,000 ATTEND SIBUJAYA WATER FIESTA CARNIVAL

SIBU, Oct 7 (Bernana) -- The Sibujaya Water Fiesta Carnival, which is the only water festival held in Sarawak, took place in Bandar Baru Sibujaya today and attracted more than 10,000 visitors.

The carnival, which entered its fourth year and was inspired by the Songkran Water Festival in Thailand, was jointly organised by the Sibu Rural District Council (MDLBS) and Amcorp Group Berhad.

It was officiated by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim, when met by reporters, said the fiesta could further strengthen the relationship among local population who are from diverse backgrounds.

“When everyone come together in programmes and events like this, it helps strengthen the relationship between the different ethnic groups in this area,” he explained.

He also expressed appreciation to Amcorp for its role in developing Sibujaya as well as bringing various activities and events for the community here.

“Amcorp Group has played an important role in developing this area from a very small town to a fully developed satellite city,” he added.
