KASIH@HAWANA 2023 CHANNELS AID TO FORMER SARAWAK MEDIA EDITOR
ASAJAYA (Sarawak), Sept 14 (Bernama) -- The welfare of media practitioners in the state continued to receive attention when former New Sarawak Tribune sports editor, Juary Mesa, 69, received a donation from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative, today.
The single father who depends on a RM200 per month aid from the Welfare Department (JKM) after suffering a stroke in 2021, said the initiative means a lot to him.
"I couldn't work after having a stroke but for now I can still move slowly on my own... at the same time I have to support my 32-year-old disabled child (OKU).
"This initiative shows the spirit of 'togetherness' among media people... I appreciate any type of donation even if it is a 'one-off' or worth RM1, I am still grateful," he told Bernama after receiving a donation from the National Journalists' Day Secretariat (HAWANA) 2023 at his residence in Kampung Moyan Lidang here, today.
According to him, the kindness of the villagers who do not hesitate to extend help such as food and other basic necessities makes him feel contented.
"My savings have also been used up since 2021. If given the chance to be healthy again, I wish to continue editing news at the New Sarawak Tribune office," said Juary who has four children aged 30 to 44 years old.
Juary started his career in journalism in 1992 as an editor at The Borneo Post before becoming a sports editor at the New Sarawak Tribune from 1999 to 2021.
Tabung Kasih@HAWANA is an initiative of the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) implemented through the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) as a continuous effort to help the media community who are facing difficulties and life challenges.
