KUCHING, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Sarawak police busted a syndicate involved in offering non-existent online part-time jobs online following raids on two condominiums in the city on Monday (Aug 7).

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said they also arrested four men and a woman, all in their 20s, in the 8 pm raids.

“Upon inspection, police found 45 ATM cards from various banks, 21 mobile phones of various brands, three vehicles, three computers, two modems and WiFi routers,” he told a media conference here today.

He said preliminary investigations found the syndicate operated as a ‘call centre’.

“The syndicate’s modus operandi was to provide part-time jobs via YouTube by just hitting the ‘Like’ button and ‘Share’ with the account stipulated in a Telegram group.

“Those targeted are Malaysians and Indonesians. The syndicate is believed to have been active since June, with total losses estimated at RM1.8 million,” he said.

According to Mancha, all suspects have been remanded for four days to assist in investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and Section 120B of the same Code for criminal conspiracy.
