KUCHING, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Government in partnership with Singapore International Foundation (SIF) today launched the Mathematics Pedagogical Learning, Understanding and Support (Maths PLUS) project.

State Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the initiative is aimed towards strengthening the content knowledge and teaching skills of Malaysian teachers in Sarawak.

“Malaysia and Singapore share a mutual interest to promote quality education. I am delighted that teachers from both communities have come together to improve education standards in Sarawak.

“The commitment and enthusiasm of the Singaporean volunteers and Sarawakian teachers in developing Maths PLUS are truly commendable. I look forward to what this cross-border collaboration will achieve,” he said when launching the project here today.

Meanwhile, SIF Chairman Janadas Devan said over the last 30 years, the foundation had worked closely with Malaysia on projects in various areas such as education, youth leadership, arts and social entrepreneurship.

“We are glad to partner with our closest neighbour once again to uplift the lives of future generations through teaching training. This project will benefit more than 80,000 students in Sarawak by 2027,” he said.

The Maths PLUS project is the SIF’s second education initiative in Malaysia, following the launch of the Skills for Integrated Education in Schools (SKIES) Project in Johor and Kuala Lumpur in 2019.

It also supports the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 laid out by the Malaysian Government.

At the global level, this project contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education, specifically Goal 4C) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for Sustainable Development).
