KUCHING, June 12 (Bernama) – More than 120 entries has been received to date for this year's ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2023, which will be held at the Old Courthouse here from Aug 2 to 4.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting said the entries would be shortlisted by a panel of judges from the ASEAN member countries, as well as several other countries outside the region, headed by Malaysia's film director, U Wei Saari.

“This is the sixth time for the AIFFA to be held in Kuching and personally (with the big number of entries), it will be a keen competition this time,” he told a press conference to announce the festival here today.

He said a total of 17 awards would be up for grabs in this year's festival and for the first time, an AIFFA ASEAN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) University Short Film (ASUS) category would be featured.

“Movies screening will be held for three days for the shortlisted films. Those who love movies can watch them for free and meet the casts and crew at the Old Courthouse auditorium,” he said, adding that workshops on film-making and documentaries would also be organised during the festival.
