KUCHING, June 9 (Bernama) -- The essence and segment of the new radio station in the state, KUPIKUPI FM Sarawak, is its bridging role as a medium of unity in highlighting the diversity of culture, costumes and dialects in Bumi Kenyalang or the Land of the Hornbills.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the station which uses the Sarawak Malay tagline of ‘Sama Dirik Pok (brother)’, which means ‘One Another’ (genuine friendship), plays a role in promoting the creative industries in the state and sharing their contribution with the rest of the country.

“As a Sarawakian, I agree that unity is the winning formula to break down the differences among us. To fellow presenters, you also need to take care of the sensitivity of our multiracial community when broadcasting live,” he said when speaking at the official launch of the radio station today.

He said the radio station which also broadcasts in Sabah as KUPIKUPI FM Sabah is indeed a source of pride for the people of Borneo, especially the young generation.

Broadcasting on frequency 92.5FM, the station features segments such as ‘Kupi Jem’, ‘Kacak Tipot’, ‘Jungo Krem’ and ‘Sekoh Pagi’ with six radio presenters namely Lan Perey, Leez Zwita, Ezmir Sadriq, Jalee, Wena and Maria.

The radio station serves listeners with bursts of inspiration and contributions from Sarawakian artistes and musicians, in addition to headlining the latest news and airing local ethnic music.
