KUCHING, April 6 (Bernama) -- Irau Aco Lun Bawang or Lun Bawang Festival which celebrates the cultural richness and heritage of the Lun Bawang people will be held from June 1 to 3 in Lawas, northern Sarawak.

Sarawak Lun Bawang Association president, Dolphina Balang said she hoped the event could attract more visitors to Lawas.

"Irau Aco Lun Bawang has become an iconic event in Lawas, not only celebrated by the Lun Bawang people but also the local communities throughout the northern region of Sarawak.

"As in previous years, this year, we are continuing the effort and inviting our friends from Brunei, Sabah and Kalimantan (Indonesia) to make this year's festival a success again," she said in a statement today.

Carrying the 'Culture Inspiring Unity' theme, various artistic, cultural and sports programmes will be held throughout the three-day event.

Traditional music performances and bead-making for traditional clothing will also be held to preserve cultural heritage among the Lun Bawang community.

The highlight of the festival is a beauty pageant and warrior contest and the winners will take home a cash prize of RM20,000.

More information about the event can be obtained on Irau Aco Lun Bawang's social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram).
