KUCHING, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Sarawak is on track to reach its target of receiving 1.2 million visitor arrivals this year, said Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said he is confident the target can be achieved as the state has already seen a total of 703,891 visitor arrivals as of July.

“Half of the year has passed and we have already reached more than 700,000 (visitor arrivals), so I think we should easily beat the 1.2 million target.

“I am confident because from past records, the second half of the year will always see more visitors coming especially in the months of October, November and December,” he said in a press conference for the upcoming Borneo Music Festival Live 2022 here, today.

Happening on September 9 and 10 at the Sarawak Cultural Village in Kuching, the festival will feature among others Alan Walker from the United Kingdom and DJ Soda from South Korea.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said large-scale live music events such as the Borneo Music Festival Live 2022 will strengthen Sarawak’s position as a prime destination in the region.

“This year, we have seen many popular music and arts events being staged in Sarawak such as Rainforest World Music Festivals. There are many more to come including Kuching Waterfront Jazz and Miri Country Music Fest.

“It also goes to show that Sarawak is an ideal destination for music tourism in Malaysia and the region, whether it’s world music, jazz, country, or other types of music,” he added.
