Sarawakians urged to grab opportunities on offer at upcoming AKM Tour

KUCHING, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Jamin Kerja Career Carnival is expected to be the focus of the Malaysian Family Aspirations (AKM) Tour programmeto be held in Sarawak from Aug 5 to 7, said State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

As such, he called on people in the Land of the Hornbills to seize the opportunities in store for them when the seventh series of the AKM Tour comes to Dataran Perayaan at Petra Jaya.

"At the recent Kelantan AKM Tour, I understand that there were over 1,000 applications. I hope at the event here, the state government, educational institutions together with the federal agencies will offer job opportunities in line with the potential of the Sarawak population.

“The people of Sarawak need to follow the development of this AKM tour and must not miss out on the chance to benefit from this programme," he said during TV3’s Malaysia Hari Ini programme.

Earlier, Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said his ministry in collaboration with the Shared Prosperity Delivery Unit (Sepadu) under the Prime Minister's Department was working on the AKM Tour together with the Sarawak State Secretary's Office.

He said 28 booths and six mobile counters would fill up the three main stages, in addition to the special tents, which have been set up to display and introduce new products, among them innovations in road construction.

Meanwhile Sepadu executive director, Wan Azilawati Wan Mahmood said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) would organise the AKM cheap sale programme where essential goods would be sold at discounted price of between 15 and 30 per cent.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to officiate the programme on Aug 7, in the presence of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
