KUCHING, July 25 (Bernama) -- What is a good age to venture full time into politics? Probably late 30s or 40s, after one has gained sufficient experience in life, according to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim, who is Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, said younger individuals should build a stable career first before going into politics.

“But if you are new and trying to build up your career in politics, it is going to be very tough. (Join politics) only after you reach probably late 30s or 40s. That is my personal observation but it does not mean I do not agree (to earlier entry). It all depends on the individuals.

“Have a career and after 10 to 20 years, you might have acquired quite a lot of experience in life. Then you can put yourselves in politics and contest in an election,” he said in a press conference at Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) here today.

He was responding to a statement from former supreme council member of Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (SEDAR) Jocky Jim, who said a new party representing young people in Sarawak will be formed to face the 15th general election (GE15).

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said Sarawak Museum, which is currently under renovation, is expected to be reopened to the public within two years.

However, he is pushing for the Sarawak Museum Department to ensure that the old museum would be ready to take in visitors earlier than that.
