Taib proud of Sarawak's achievements in hydrogen economy development
KUCHING, May 17 (Bernama) -- Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud is proud of the state’s achievements being at the forefront of the development of the hydrogen economy in Southeast Asia.
He said the hydrogen economy would be a major contributor to Sarawak's economic well-being, and reduce dependence on traditional industries.
“We will create new sources of income to reduce our dependence on depleting natural resources and fossil fuels,” he said while officiating the opening session of the Second Meeting of the First Session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly, today.
Tun Taib also praised the leadership of Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who introduced the far-sighted initiative to change the face of the economy of Sarawak.
“I am happy that Sarawak is working with the private sector and foreign governments to harness the potential of the carbon market.
“New revenue streams from forest resources will be generated from carbon trading projects,” he added.
