Sarawak financial secretary office urged to spearhead digital transformation of GLCs
KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 -- Premier of Sarawak Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has urged the State Financial Secretary Office to spearhead the digital transformation of state government-linked companies (GLCs) and statutory bodies.
He said the office should collaborate with the Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE) to facilitate and conduct more capacity-building programmes as well as digital summits for the benefit of Sarawak’s GLCs and statutory bodies.
He said these forums and programmes will not only provide an excellent opportunity to identify best practices but most importantly create space for direct networking, knowledge transfer and matchmaking discussions.
“To thrive in times of the digital age and pandemic, no one organisation can survive alone. Smart partnerships are the way forward,” he said in his speech at the Digital Leadership Forum here today.
His speech was read out by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Abang Johari said the digital transformation journey is never an easy task, but it will provide businesses and organisations the opportunity to reinvent and realise new ways of working to meet customer expectations.
“In short, we may need to let go of things that made us successful in the past in order to make room for new skills, partnerships, ways of working and untapped opportunities.
“The COVID-19 pandemic will have permanent, long-term effects on how economies and financial systems operate in the future; therefore we need to adopt a ‘business unusual’ mission and vision motto,” he said.
Abang Johari said in these pandemic times, education and training must also be given to workers and talents in new skills areas such as web engineering, digital platform technologies, data analysis, cloud computing and cyber security.
