Sarawak is a Malaysia's territory located on the northwest of Borneo, the third largest island in the world.

Measuring 124,450 km square, Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia with a population of 2.8 million. With more than 30 ethnic groups living together with high racial and religious tolerance, Sarawak or the Land of the Hornbills is often taken as an exemplary model of unity by other states.

As the country's largest state which attained full independence as a member state of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963, Sarawak practices a unique administrative approach as it is divided into 12 divisions namely Kuching, Sri Aman, Sibu, Miri, Limbang, Sarikei, Kapit, Samarahan, Bintulu, Betong, Mukah and Serian, each headed by a Resident.

Kuching, which is capital and administration centre of Sarawak, was declared a city on Aug 1, 1988, and the world's first City of Unity on Aug 1, 2015.
